Yet another panorama

Quick(ish) and dirty attempt this time. Just wanted to put it together to see what happens. It's at Gunlom again, but looking up to the lookout where the other Gunlom panorama was taken. I might need to compile the software myself to get the current version and start messing with different projections. I'm using cylindrical at the moment but I want to see how it goes with Mercator, which means either waiting for a binary to turn up or compiling my own. Could try rectilinear but that would probably distort the image too much.

Yeah well where's YOUR photo of that waterfall? Hmmmmm? And how well did this one turn out? Obsessed nerd perhaps... but you don't have to say it like it's a bad thing!

What's the software you are using? I have a couple of panormam shots from Thailand that didn't turn out as well as I hoped they would.

I'm using hugin http://hugin.sf.net/ which relies on panotools http://panotools.sf.net/
To make life easier you will also need one of autopano or autopano-SIFT and if you have the light levels right and want to use blending rather than feathering to hide the joins, you'll need enblend http://enblend.sf.net/

The documentation for Hugin is in tutorial form and makes a lot of sense when you work through it.

Yes they are all free for non-commercial use, and are available in both Linux and Window versions.

ooohhhh technobabble!

btw Snerg, love the very KoL gravatar :)

but why doesn't mine appear? it does on some blogs but not on others. is it the method of the comments appearing - it seems that if there's a pop-up box for comments, my gravatar appears, but not otherwise.

Hey Mz Speedy!

Glad you like the image. I made it myself! Had to drink 2 martinis because the first one wasn't so good. The trick is.... the one on here isn't on gravatar. It's my photo in my blogger profile. If you use blogger itself for the comments, it doesn't do gravatars. Haloscan (used on ForBattle!) does. Unfortunately the blogger native avatars are not applied retrospectively, unlike gravatar which turns up straight away.

Can you ever say it like it's a good thing?

Yes you can. For example....

"You're an obsessed nerd, honey."

or

"My what a mighty fine obsessed nerd you make!"

Much more positive.

Oooooh you're sooooo nerdily obsessed
(okay you have to add your own marilyn monroe-esque voice)

Is that better?

Happy Birthday Mr Obsessy Nerd...

you mean like that, DV?

Snerg - just looked at doing that. it made my brain hurt.

Hmmm.... the emerging from the giant cake singing "Happy birthday Mr Nerd" does have a certain amount of appeal.

As for putting up a blogger image, you basically need a blog (or borrow one). If I get my act together I'll set one up for you and give you the URL.
