That was tooooooo easy

Recently I subscribed to TPG's offering of ADSL2+. The rates seemed okay, so I went ahead with it. They kept updating me of progress via emails, and yesterday morning I picked up my Zyxel modem. Apparently I now have VoIP if I want it, but the main bit is that it's a funky modem with 802.11g wireless, 4 ethernet ports, and heaps of security features. You can also configure it via telnet session.

The funny thing was that after I finally got my computer to boot again (there was an incident involving the smell of burning circuit board), I plugged the modem in, and straight away I could browse the world. How cool is that? It was all pre-loaded and set up for me. Either that or something really weird is happening. So now I've changed the admin password like a good security person, and I need to work out how to set up the wireless network. Particularly for linux (in Redhat flavour).

I just got a fancy-pants modem that does the same thing, but with iinet. that's right kids, I finally got broadband! and they'll have ADSL2 in Burwood in a couple of months. and thank god they pre-set everything in the modem, or there would ahve been tears before bedtime...

Heh... fair enough!

I'm a little peeved at TPG at the moment though. Turns out their prices are ex-gst, although it doesn't say that anywhere. Looking at following that up!

really!?? that's folking slack!

I did look at TPG - there was a brochure in our letterbox. similar pricing to iinet I think - but I don't remember anything about GST - it must have been in tiny print.

devious.

Devious or illegal? I seem to remember when GST was unleashed that you had to state its inclusion or exclusion in prices. I don't think that has ever changed.

oh well in that case, whip their arses Mr Snerg!!! go to it!

I am! I have sent them a message... we'll see what happens. A guy here reckons he isn't paying GST on top of the prices so it may have been some fat-fingers on the keyboard when doing my account.

Heh... think it turns out I'm stupid and I read the bill wrong. I am being charged correctly. Sigh. Prices are as stated, and include GST. They write the GST as an extra column next to everything, so I thought it was extra rather than a separate column decomposing the price. Glad I figured that one out.
