Chicken update and general farming

Just a few words on what's happening down at the farm....

So we're still keeping Godzilla separate from the pullets. Point of lay is in fact 18 weeks, and they are now 15 weeks old so 3 more weeks at the most before we shut them in the coup together to see what happens. The different food and living space is a bit of a hassle, but there's still a little too much menacing. From 18 weeks they certainly won't grow anymore, but until then we'll still need to keep up the pullet food. Fingers crossed we can cohabit them at 16 weeks and do the wing clipping.

So another weird thing... a few days ago someone stole our tulip bulbs from the front yard. Bizarre.

And our vegie patch is getting there. Beans, tomatoes, corn and pumpkins looking good. Lettuces doing mildly okay. No sign of any carrots, strawberries or the new lot of chillies.

Like, dug them up to steal them? Or nicked some you hadn't planted yet? Either way is weird...

How rude! To dig up your front garden and steal plants!!

That's incredible.

yah... surprises me not, but I am a cynic.

I've had plants nicked, in fact in the last week or so, someone nicked some of the Clivias TDN(tm) planted out in the back lane. I can only suppose they thought they might be cream Clivia, which can sell for up to $50. they'll be disappointed to find they're only the daggy, unattractive orange ones that I don't like, and so allowed TDN(tm) to plant out the back where I can't see them...

bulbs aren't cheap and if they were nice/rare colours, they can easily sprout legs and magically find themselves in someone else's garden.

Yup dug up and stole them. One about to flower, the other already had. Went to get in to the car to go to work; and where some green stalks were the night before there were some new small holes in the ground.

Interesting you bring up the price of tulip bulbs, Speedy... I had a similar conversation with someone else who said pretty much the same thing. It's possible that people still think they are expensive but really they are around $1 each or 50c if you buy a bucket load of them these days. Maybe people still think they are expensive? Maybe people are just a bit crap sometimes.
