After staying in Twizel, we went for a drive around the hydro electric lakes. I really should look up the names of them to remember while I can, but whatever it was called, this one is full:
So here is where two of the lakes meet. One is river water, the other is glacial meltwater. They don't really like mixing straight away, and you can see the difference in colour.
Finally, here is some of the view on the way to lake Tekapo. We could finally see the snow capped mountains! Yay!

I love a good hydro electric dam. I recommend Strathgordon in Tasmania.
The water looks so beautiful and clear in the photo.
I'll try to check out lake Pedder the next time we are down there. I haven't seen it yet!
The water was indeed really clear, except for the bluish tinge on the glacial water. There was also a string of eddies along the interface of the two waters mixing. Was very cool to watch.
The snow-covered mountains as seen from Christchurch looked like a backdrop to a school production of the Sound Of Music.
But more thrilling, don't you agree?
More thrilling AND without the crazy people running the wrong way to escape the wrong country!
The hills are well and truly alive without the sound of music.

Actually, according to the Lord o' the Rings location guidebook, it's the Pelennor Fields (or very close to it). The largest battle scene in the movie series was shot around here.
