Ritmo Brasil festival, Sydney 2008

These photos were taken at the Ritmo Brasil festival in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour. The festival was today, and the highlight was a performance of the Maracatu performed by Umbela Brasil. Apparently, this particular celebratory dance hasn't been performed in Australia before.

The guy in green below danced a lot. The weather was hot. Luckily he has someone to keep him well watered. It also gives you a bit of an idea of how many drummers were involved.

This was back on the stage again back at Tumbalong park.

The woman at the front of the second photo, and on the right of the stage in the last photo is one of my colleagues.

Hey this is great. That's my group Umbela Brasil www.umbelabrasil.org and we are performing Maracatu. yes you are absolutely correct, we believe it's the first maracatu to be performed in Australia.
thanks for that.

There were five groups collaborating to bring that performance together and we had drummers and dancers from Newcastle, Blue Mountains, Brazil, Japan, France and Sydney. It was a blast...

Hi: it is Siobhan from King Parrot Samba. The first photo is one of our humble group starting our parade. Then we had the pleasure of joining the others for the main parade as shown in the group parade shot. Thankyou so much for your beautiful photos. May the blessings of the parrots be upon you friend.
